Huang Du | Curator
Wang Luyan is one of the artists I am familiar with. I have known him for many years and invited him to participate in the exhibitions I planned. He strikes me as low-key, perceptive, talkative and logical, and that's what I think of his work: independent, internal, essential and consistent. Wang Luyan started his artistic career in the 1970s, He has participated in Star Art Exhibition (1979), New Scale Group (1988-1995), Chinese Modern Art Exhibition (1989), Very Mouth (1991), Chinese Avant-garde Art Exhibition (1992), the Second Asia Pacific Triennial (1996), etc. He is an important participant and witness in every stage of development of Chinese contemporary art. He has never been a "Hot" artist, but he is an important artist without controversy. In the context of Chinese contemporary art, his artistic attitude of never yielding to any artistic trend and his independent artistic thoughts and working methods lasting more than 20 years are the reasons why I have been paying attention to him for a long time, and also the reason why I plan and launch Wang Luyan's solo exhibition today.
